Jokowi dominates in almost all segments of debate: Observers

Kupang (Antara News NTT) - Observers of political communications from Widya Mandira Catholic University (Unika) Kupang, Mikhael Bataona, stated that number 1 presidential candidate President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) dominated almost all segments of the second presidential debate.

"Jokowi seems to dominate in almost all segments of the debate, because he appears confident with data and facts that are so simple," Bataona told Antara in Kupang on Monday (18/2).

He revealed this when asked for views about the second presidential debate held on Sunday (Feb 17) night.

According to him, last night`s debate showed an irony about political philosophy that was so great, defeated by data and facts that were so simple.

Prabowo Subianto appeared in his distinctive style, proposing great and grand narratives about independence or Berdikari (standing on his own feet).

On the contrary, Jokowi appeared in a relaxed style and submitted numerical data and facts about what he had done with Jusuf Kalla.

Finally, it can be seen that Subianto`s great narratives based on his political philosophy, namely anti-import and anti-foreign, are actually bland in front of data and facts that are articulated in detail by Jokowi, he added.

"Jokowi seemed to dominate in almost all segments of the debate because he appeared confident with the data," the lecturer at the Unika Faculty of Political Sciences stressed.

For a session on infrastructure and food imports, Jokowi looked quite skilled at avoiding Subianto`s "stabbing."

"This is my opinion, proving that Subianto and his team failed to form abstract ideas to be operational and down to earth," Bataona revealed.

In fact, if Prabowo also mastered the data, then Jokowi`s answer could be broken and last night`s debate would have been more fierce
