Kupang, E.Nusa Tenggara (Antara NTT) - General Manager of the Indonesian shipyard company PT. Pelindo III of Kupang, Boy Rubyanto, said that the Tenau seaport in Kupang city will soon become a cargo seaport.

"We are taking care of everything in order to realize the plan as soon as possible," Rubyanto stated when contacted by Antara here on Monday.

According to him, if the cargo port starts operating, then the ships will no longer have to use their container cranes for the process of loading and unloading, as it will be provided by Pelindo as the seaport management.

"Hence, the ship will not take longer to dock at the port, because the process will be faster than compared to using container cranes," Rubyanto remarked.

According to Rubyanto, Tenau seaport is one of 24 ports in Indonesia which has been proclaimed by the president to become the maritime central axis in the world.

Pelindo is currently expanding the container yard of 1.5 hectares to support the capacity of the cargo seaport.

In 2016, the container volume at Tenau seaport reached 100 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year.

"We hope that by next year Tenau seaport can accommodate 250 thousand TEUs, so that we can be a part of the of the world`s maritime axis," he added.
