Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Jan 11 (Antara) - Work in the Raknmo dam project had been slowed down by heavy downpour since December, 2016, the project contractor PT. Waskita Karya said.
"Currently the process of construction was slightly slowed down by continued rainy days since December, 2016," Yudho Budi Setiawan, the project chief of the state owned construction company said here on Tuesday.
Construction of the 147 hectare Raknamo dam to have a capacity of holding 14.09 million cubic meters of water, is estimated to cost Rp760 billion .
President Joko Widodo inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony in December, 2014 to market the start of work to build the water reservoir.
The Raknamo dam in the village of Raknamo is one of seven big water reservoirs to be built in East Nusa Tenggara by the Public Workd Ministry.
"Currently 85 percent of the work has been completed in the Raknamo dam. It should have been closer to completion barring the too many rainy days, Yudho said.
The work, however, has been progressing much faster than expected, he said, adding based on the schedule in the contract completion was only 30.49 percent by January 7 this year.
Waskita is committed to accelerating work in the project although the government has not paid a debt of Rp250 billion to the state company, he said.
"Apparently the government has limited funding capacity , therefore we use our own fund . The government promised to pay the debt this year," he said.
Currently work is in the progress for water channels, diversion channel, access road and bridge .
"Our target is to finished the job in June or July this year. Hopefully there is no stumbling block other than rain," he said.
