Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) provincial government has assured that the Labuan Bajo area of West Manggarai district is safe for the implementation of G20 side meetings.

Head of tourism and creative economy of NTT province, Zet Sony Libing, said that his office will collaborate with the central government, the Labuan Bajo Tourism Authority, and the West Manggarai government for organizing the G20 side meetings.

All stakeholders have worked very well and hard for preparing Labuan Bajo as one of the super-priority tourist destinations in the country, he said in Kupang on Monday.

“We are grateful that a number of G20 side meetings will be held in Labuan Bajo. This is a good promotional tool for Labuan Bajo, Flores, and also NTT in general," Libing added.

The government, the stakeholders, and the community have implemented strict health protocols and ensured against massive COVID-19 transmission in Labuan Bajo, he said.

He further said he believed that the successful implementation of G20 side meetings in Labuan Bajo will have an economic impact on the community.

"Not only that, our tourism sector will also be increasingly recognized by G20 participants who come to Labuan Bajo," he said.

Separately, Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo's director of sales and marketing, Ika Dunn, said the number of COVID-19 infections in the region were relatively low. However, all parties must always be ready to reduce the infection spread, he added.

“Currently, the local government is also anticipating it (COVID-19 transmission) by preparing free antigens for all passengers who disembark through Komodo Airport. If the passengers are infected with COVID-19, they will be quarantined in the hospital," Dunn said.

A low transmission rate and strict health protocols can help make tourists feel safe and comfortable to vacation in Labuan Bajo, he added.
