Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) ran safely and smoothly, East Nusa Tenggara Police Chief Inspector General Johanis Asadoma said.
"I want to express my gratitude to the people of East Nusa Tenggara who have taken part in various ways in maintaining the security and order situation during the 2022 Christmas celebrations and the celebration of welcoming the 2023 New Year so that it remains conducive," he said in Kupang on Sunday.
He made the remarks following the current situation, especially during the turn of the year celebrations in the province.
He also expressed his gratitude to the public for listening to his appeal to not play with firecrackers during the 2022 Christmas celebration and before the New Year's Eve 2023.
He had advised the public to not set firecrackers before the 2023 New Year celebrations.
He even appealed to people to not set fireworks or firecrackers right away during the celebration, because from 6 pm to 10 pm local time, many people were still doing worships.
"You can light a firecracker if it is past that time. And it is even better to turn it on at 00.00 (local time)," he said.
He also thanked everyone because there were no convoys, illegal street racing, and intoxication on the streets, which could disturb public order.
He also expressed gratitude to the personnel in the region who had maintained security.
"I thank you for the implementation of Christmas and New Year security which has gone well, that a safe and orderly situation is maintained," he said.
Asadoma expected that in 2023, all the cooperation which has been established could be well-maintained, for sake of security and order in the province.
