Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - Garuda Indonesia`s Kupang Branch has proposed to start flight services on three routes in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

"We have proposed to the central management of Garuda in Jakarta to start flight services on Kupang to Waingapu, Kupang to Atambua, and Kuang to Rote routes, but to date, we have yet to receive a confirmation," Kupang Garuda General Manager Yudi M Fulkan remarked here on Tuesday (24/7).

He said the proposal to start new flight services on these three routes aims to improve connectivity between regions and to support the tourism sector in NTT Province.

Fulkan explained that he had twice submitted the same proposal for starting flight services to several routes in NTT, but until now, no response has been received from the Garuda central office in Jakarta.

According to Fulkan, studies have been conducted to evaluate the market for flight services on these three routes, and it holds significant potential, as each is a tourist destination.

In addition, he noted that the airport infrastructure on these three routes is also ready to serve the Garuda Indonesia airline.

At present, the Lion Group, a low-cost airline company, has been supporting the NTT tourism sector by starting several new flight routes to the province`s top tourist destinations.

NTT Tourism Office Chief Marius Ardu Jelamu said he had lauded the management of Lion Air Group that continues to support tourism in the province.

"We highly laud the commitment of the Lion Group management for starting new flight routes, which will certainly have a positive impact on the flow of tourists to NTT," Jelamu remarked here recently.

Earlier, at the end of May 2018, the Lion Group, through Wings Air airline, had started daily round-trip flight on the Kupang-Lombok route.

In addition, Wings Air will operate flights on a new route connecting the East Java provincial city of Surabaya to Labuan Bajo in NTT.

Using the ATR 72-600 aircraft, with a 72-seater capacity, Wings Air will serve the Surabaya-Labuan Bajo route with three flights per week on every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The decision to open the new route is aimed at supporting the government`s development program for ensuring better connectivity across the nation.
