An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale jolted northwest Kupang District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, on Monday at 5:55 a.m. local time.

"The tremor`s epicenter was located at 9.61 degree southern latitude, 123.16 degree eastern longitude, some 79 km northwest of Kupang District, and at a depth of 10 km," Robert Owen Wahyu said.

"The tremor`s epicenter was located at 9.61 degree southern latitude, 123.16 degree eastern longitude, some 79 km northwest of Kupang District, and at a depth of 10 km," Robert Owen Wahyu, head of the meteorology, climatology and geophysics office of Kampung baru, said here, on Monday.

The earthquake did not have potential to trigger a tsunami.
