Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The El Tari Airbase in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara’s provincial capital, conducted rapid tests on members of its soldiers' families for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) diagnosis after its 324 soldiers were earlier subject to similar tests.

"After having conducted rapid tests on active members, today, we will go door-to-door to conduct rapid tests on members of their families," Commander of the El Tari Airbase Colonel Bambang Juniar Djatmiko stated here on Saturday.

"The rapid tests are conducted on wives, children, and housemaids staying along with the soldiers," he remarked.

Djatmiko explained that the door-to-door rapid tests were being conducted to prevent crowding of members of the soldiers' families for taking them.

The airbase has also provided a room for COVID-19 examination for ensuring that all soldiers and members of their families do not contract COVID-19, he noted.

"Yesterday, 324 soldiers took rapid tests, and today, we will conduct rapid tests on members of their families," he added.

In the meantime, the government is designating top priority to vaccinating 1.5 million medical personnel against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Erick Thohir, chairperson of the Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery, stated.

"It must be ensured that these 1.5 million (healthcare workers) receive the vaccine first, as they are at the forefront of immunization or mass vaccination," Thohir, concurrently state-owned enterprises (BUMN) minister, stated after a meeting with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) and the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) in Jakarta on Thursday (Sept 3).

Thohir remarked that the figure was still being estimated. It is still being consolidated with the IDI, PPNI, and the Indonesian Midwives Association.

"Earlier, we obtained the criteria for doctors and nurses, as there are doctors from different disciplines, such as pulmonologists and heart doctors," he remarked.
