Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara, Oct 19 (Antara) - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Frans Lebu Raya officially opened the Komodo Travel Mart 2017, here, Thursday, aimed at promoting the province`s tourist destinations.

NTT is currently developing its tourism industry to attract tourists, he remarked.

Several events, such as a sandalwood horse parade, woven ikat festival, and Tour de Flores were organized to introduced NTT`s culture, tradition, and natural scenery.

"The Komodo Travel Mart is an event organized to offer tourism packages in NTT," he remarked.

Some 205 buyers from 16 countries and Indonesian provinces are attending the Komodo Travel Mart 2017 being held in Kupang on October 18-21, 2017.

Some 30 sellers from NTT Province are promoting and offering tourism products in the southernmost province of Indonesia, Abed Frans, head of the Indonesian Association Travel Agents` NTT chapter, noted.

The main event was held in Kupang on Oct 18-19. The agenda included a business meeting and a discussion on ecotourism.

A tour will thereafter be organized to Labuan Bajo and five other "Beyond Komodo" tourist destinations on Oct 20-21.

The five destinations are Atambua, Soe, Kupang, Ende, and Lembata.

The Komodo Travel Mart is supported by state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I.

The Indonesian government has been paying greater attention to economic development in NTT to help the province catch up with other regions that are more developed.
