The number of patients with dengue fever had increased from eight in early January 2017 and had continued to rise by 17 at the end of the month and then increased to 29 until this day.
"Until this day, as many as 29 people have suffered from the disease and were under medical treatment at numerous hospitals in the city," Sri Wahyuningsih remarked.

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara NTT) - The number of patients suffering from dengue fever in the East Nusa Tenggara provincial city of Kupang continues to rise to 29 until February 2017 in line with the increasing rainfall intensity.

"Until this day, as many as 29 people have suffered from the disease and were under medical treatment at numerous hospitals in the city," City`s Health Office spokesperson, Sri Wahyuningsih, remarked here on Tuesday.

She said the number of patients with dengue fever had increased from eight in early January 2017 and had continued to rise by 17 at the end of the month and then increased to 29 until this day.

According to Wahyuningsih, the increase in the number of dengue patients in the city of Kupang is inseparable from the extreme weather conditions that this area has experienced in the last two weeks, with moderate- to high-intensity rainfall.

In order to break the chain of dengue transmission, she said the local community had been urged to revive the tradition of mutual assistance by conducting an environmental cleanliness movement, such as burying, draining, and hoarding, in addition to eradicating the aedes aegypti mosquitos` breeding grounds.

Wahyuningsih believed that through the environmental cleanliness movement and the eradication of mosquito breeding grounds, the local people could break the chain of the deadly disease.

Further, she explained that most of the dengue patients lived in densely populated settlement areas.

Hence, she has urged the local community to immediately rush the people affected by dengue fever to the nearby hospitals and health centers.

Wahyuningsih expressed hope that a person suffering from fever for three days would be quickly rushed to a nearby hospital or community health center for treatment.
