Jakarta (ANTARA) - The G20 activities centered in Bali are expected to have a large economic impact on the surrounding areas and Indonesia in general, including East Nusa Tenggara's Labuan Bajo.

Labuan Bajo will have the opportunity to host 10 G20 side events from May to November 2022, the Executive Agency for the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF) informed in a written statement received here on Saturday, (12/2).

According to president director of BPOLBF, Shana Fatima, the events are expected to have a direct economic impact of US$3 million on Labuan Bajo and surrounding regencies.

"The calculation assumes that G20 tourists have seven times the purchasing power of tourists in general. Ten side meeting activities with approximately 800 participants multiplied by US$2 thousand. This is still a rough calculation, not to mention if there are participants who want to increase their stay," Fatima said in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday.

Therefore, the BPOLBF, NTT local government, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and other stakeholders will collaborate to make the G20 side events in Labuan Bajo a success, she added.

"The key is collaboration of various parties, and also the active role of the community, of course," Fatima remarked.

Various preparations have been made for the events, from ensuring the availability of hotel rooms and infrastructure to the designing of tour packages to tourist destinations in Labuan Bajo and surrounding districts, she informed.

Labuan Bajo is a hub for other districts in Flores, she noted.

"We will offer attractive tour packages so that the participants can stay longer. Besides, we will also provide some spots for local people and businesses to offer their creative products. Tourist attractions are also to be held in a number of places, of course, with strict health protocols," she added.

"Strict health protocols are, of course, an obligation. Besides, a travel bubble will be implemented for mutual safety. We will also try to stem the spread of this outbreak so that people can enjoy the benefits of these (G20) activities, especially after tourism has been slumped for a long time due to the pandemic," Fatima remarked.

The 10 side meetings of G20 that will be held in Labuan Bajo will include the Tourism Working Group meeting in May 2022, the second seminar/workshop of the Environment and Climate Sustainability Group (ECSWG) on June 27, the second meeting of ECSWG on June 28–29, the third Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) meeting on July 20–22, the third Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) meeting on September 19–20.
