"It is likely that Waisano`s geothermal development will be the first project, as well as a pilot project," the Head of Provincial Energy and Mining Office, Boni Marasina, told Antara here, Friday.
Earlier, the government set Flores as the Island of Geothermal, because it has the potential to be developed as an electricity source reaching 60 megawatts.
Yunus Saefulhak, Director of Geothermal, Directorate General of Renewable Energy, said the first project to be developed in Flores was in Waisano, based on a survey by the Geological Agency, which has been analyzed by the World Bank, stating the area has geothermal potential.
The funds to develop Waisano will come from Geothermal Fund of the World Bank and the state budget.
"There is Rp3 trillion available from the state budget, and US$55.25 million from the World Bank," Yunus noted.
According to him, funds from the Geothermal Fund will be used for exploration mitigation. It is expected that the cost can be recovered by the business sectors and can be spent on exploring other areas.
The cost of exploration for the development of one Geothermal Working Area is around US$20-25 million. In addition to being a pilot project, geothermal in Flores can also be developed for a geopark.
