Kupang, E. Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - The government has prepared 136 hectares of land for Tourism Authority Body (BOP) in Labuan Bajo, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
Head of the East Nusa Tenggara tourism service Marius Ardu Jelamu said the land is provided by the government to be developed by the BOP of Labuan Bajo.
"The land is prepared as an early step toward development of tourism in Labuan Bajo. It is part of 400 hectares of forest land under the Environment and Forestry Ministry," Marius said.
Labuan Bajo is important as the main access to the Komodo island, the habitat of ancient dragon Komodo, one of the world`s seven wonders of nature, not found in any other place in the world.
The government also plans to expand and modernize the Labuan Bajo airport into an international airport to facilitate transport of growing number of tourists visiting the region.
BOP would be in charge of promoting Labuan Bajo, Sumba Timur, Rote Ndao and other potential areas to attract investors to develop the region as a tourist destinations, Marius said.
