WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Indonesia is initiating a master plan containing regulations for Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara tourism management.
Kupang, E.Nusa Tenggara (Antara) - WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Indonesia is initiating a master plan containing regulations for Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara tourism management.

The new regulations will help maintain a balance in the ecosystem of the natural habitat of komodo dragon.

"Together with local administrations, we`ve been carrying out integrated activities to preserve marine ecosystems while ensuring sustainable tourism. Waste is also being managed sustainably," the coordinator of the Network of Water Conservation Area for Small Sunda, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara, Khaifin said here on Friday.

Khaifan informed that an increasing number of tourists have been visiting Labuan Bajo after the giant reptile komodo was declared one of the seven wonders of the world.

However, WWF pointed out that there was not a single regulation that could be a reference point for environment-based tourism management.

"There are no rules on how travelers can preserve the natural environment while having a vacation or diving under water," Khaifin pointed out.

Now, divers will be governed under certain rules to maintain and preserve all marine life during diving.

"Moreover, diverse creatures which are part of the marine life should be preserved, such as stingray fish (Manta birostris), sharks and other organisms," he noted.

According to Khaifan, the regulation will help support the preservation and management of ecosystems in terms of tourism.
