Kupang, E. Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - General Manager of the Tenau Kupang branch of PT Pelindo III Baharuddin said the number of sea passengers via the port of Tenau, Kupang, shot up 60 percent to 87,897 in the first four months of the year.
"The arrivals and departures recorded by the port grew 60 percent in the January-April period in 2018 from 52,648 in the same period last year," Baharuddin said here on Friday (18/5).
More people used the service of the state owned shipping companies PT Pelni serving the routes from Tenau, he said.
A number of passenger ships of PT Pelni including KM Awu, KM Wilis, KM Bukit Siguntang, and KM Sirimau stopped over at the port of Tenau.
In addition, worse and extreme climate in East Nusa Tenggara forced ferry ships to stop operation that travelers have to go to the port of Tenau to board large ships of PT Pelni.
The number of sea travelers from and to port of Tenau are expected to increase ahead and during the Ramadhan and Ide ul Fitr.
