Kupang (ANTARA) - The Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (DPD GAMKI) has urged all East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) residents to fully support the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai district.
The summit will be held from May 5–12, 2023.
"In May 2023, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai district, will host the ASEAN Summit. Thus, let's support the high-level event that will be attended by several countries' leaders," DPD GAMKI- NTT head Gadi Buli said in Kupang on Saturday.
Buli, accompanied by the movement's secretary, Simon Petrus Nilli, said that GAMKI will fully support the international-level event and expressed the hope that it will have a positive impact on the people of the archipelagic province.
GAMKI also asked for the prayers and support of all NTT people to ensure that the 2023 ASEAN Summit is held successfully.
Furthermore, he said that GAMKI NTT will wholeheartedly support security forces and all related parties that are preparing for the event.
"We deliver our prayers and hope that the ASEAN Summit will run smoothly and bring positive impacts to the people of NTT," Buli added.
People's support is deemed essential to ensure the security and safety of the event that will take place on the western tip of Flores Island.
He then referred to Saturday's Eid al-Fitr celebrations, saying that all people on the islands of Flores, Timor, Sumba, Alor, and Lembata must uphold tolerance.
"We should maintain a good level of tolerance and a conducive situation so the Eid celebration in NTT will run safely and peacefully," he added.
He emphasized that the obligation to maintain tolerance, conduciveness, and security during religious holidays is on all levels of society.
Security and comfort, he said, are key components during this year's Eid al-Fitr. On behalf of NTT GAMKI, he called upon NTT residents to help maintain a peaceful situation during Eid celebrations.
