Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - Yulius Mauloko, a footballer from Atambua, Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara, became the first official Indonesian soccer player to be contracted for a year by the Australian League II club, Western Knights SC, Mosman Park.
"I have been officially contracted for a year with the Western Knights SC club as a left winger or at the right-hand position," he noted in the statement on Friday (30/3).
Mauloko, a former Balinese soccer player, expressed enthusiasm on being given the opportunity to play overseas although being in the second division of Australia`s soccer league.
He further noted that before arriving in Australia, he had trained with Sorrento FC, one of the Australian soccer league II clubs that had finished among the top three in the earlier season.
However, when Mauloko was due to sign the contract, he got stuck with a visa problem that led to the cancellation of his contract.
Earlier, Mauloko had received an offer from PSM Makassar, a club I from the Indonesian Soccer League I, and was waiting to sign the contract. Unfortunately, he decided to seek new experiences abroad in Australia.
"I have been playing since a while in Indonesia and even played in Timor Leste. I now want to gain new experiences in Australia," he remarked.
Furthermore, Mauloko pointed out that a rest period is currently underway in the Australian national league II season and will start within two weeks.
"Thanks to East Nusa Tenggara`s soccer observer and the owner of SSB Bali United Kristal David Fulbertus as well as the owner of SSB Bintang Timur FC Fary Djemi Francis, who motivated me, and also East Nusa Tenggara`s Masgibol that has always supported me during the training in Australia," he added.
