Kupang, NTT (ANTARA) - The operation of electric vehicles in Labuan Bajo will enhance the attractiveness of the tourist destination, president director of the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority Board (BPOLBF), Shana Fatina, has said.

She made the statement in a press release received here on Tuesday to support state-run electricity provider PT PLN's (Persero’s) effort to operate the first electric car in the area, which is a super-priority tourism destination in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province.

The utilization of the electric car is in line with the government’s clean energy transition effort, which is also one of Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency agenda.

The BPOLBF president director said that the operation of the electric car shows that the tourism destination highly supports the utilization of sustainable energy.

BPOLBF is planning to procure two units of electric cars and operate them in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings.

The operation of electric cars in the tourist site will be supported by Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU), which were inaugurated earlier.

General manager of the PT PLN Parent Regional Unit for NTT province, Agutinus Jatmiko, said that the operation of the first electric car in Labuan Bajo is aimed at increasing the utilization of such vehicles in the area.

Using an electric vehicle requires a full power of 39-kilowatt hour (kwh), which costs Rp2,466,78 (US$0.17) per kwh, making it much more efficient than a conventional car, he informed.

It takes about 30 minutes to charge the car from 0 percent to 70 percent using the ultra-fast SPKLU.
