Kupang, E. Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - A new hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) with a capacity of 1 megawatt will soon come on stream in the district of East Manggarai, Flores Island, the East Nusa Tenggara branch of the state-owned electricity company PLN said.
General Manager of the East Nusa Tenggara branch of PLN, Christyono said the PLTA, which is owned by PT Multi Energi Dinamika will start operation in the last quarter of this year.
PLN and PT Multi Energi Dinamika already signed the power purchase agreement, Christyono said here on Friday (5/10).
He said the new power plant would supply electricity to 2,150 households in the village of Golomongkok, sub-district of Borong. It will save the use of the expensive oil fuel, he added.
He said PLN and the regional administration in East Nusa Tenggara have agreed to develop more power generating facilities using renewable energy to reduce dependence on oil fuel.
He said in Flores alone there have been a number of power generating facilities utilizing renewable energy sources such as geothermal power plants (PLTP)Ulumbu, Mataloko and Ndungga, solar power plant (PLTM) IPP Wae Roa and hydropower plant PLTA Sita.
