Bilacenge (Antara NTT) - Head of the Technology Study and Application Agency (BPPT) Dr Unggul Priyanto on Tuesday officially put into operation Smart Energy Management System (SEMS) in Bilacenge, Southwest Sumba (SBD), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The project, which is the result of cooperation between BPPT and Japan`s Kyudenko, has a solar cell power capacity of 500 kWp. Construction of the project began by BPPT in 2011 in Bilacenge, Southwest Sumba, the island of Sumba, NTT.

Unggul said the development of the project constituted an early step toward development and mastery of the smart grid technology with the main target of providing facility in the study of application of smart microgrid technology.

In 2016, BPPT cooperated with Kyudenko Corporation to optimize the operation of the Sumba SMG demo plant by introducing the technology of Energy Management Systems (EMS).

In 2017, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment finance the cooperation in research between and Kyudenko Corporation. The technology is equipped with bank battery the type of VRLA with a capacity of 2,000 kWh, 16 units of PV converter @25 kW, 6 units of inverter @50 kW and battery control sub-system.

The plan is the EMS system would be connected with sub-system of PV array with a capacity of 400 kWp. With the PV power capacity this system could supply power to 220 Kw electric system for 6 hours every day.

Unggul said he hoped with stable power supply the system could help PLN in providing larger power supply for the people.

He said the program is a form of commitment of BPPT to supporting the national program to utilizing renewable energy especially.
