Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (AntaraNews NTT) - The Kupang city government, East Nusa Tenggara Province, has allocated Rp7 billion for the procurement of 500 streetlights in 2018.

"Funds for the procurement of 500 streetlamps have been allocated from the government`s budget. Hundreds of night lights will be installed on Kupang City`s protocol streets, such as El Tari, Frans Seda, and Piet A Tallo," Head of General Affairs, Regional Secretariat of Kupang, Joni Bire stated here on Thursday (24/5).

Bire said the initiative was taken as part of the Kupang city government`s efforts to facilitate local residents in carrying out their activities in the evening. He revealed that the budget of Rp7 billion is set aside for the procurement of 500 streetlights, light poles, and light accessories.

"We are preparing the process to procure 500 streetlamps, and several months later, we will complete the installation of lights, so that the protocol road area will no longer appear dark in the evenings anymore," he stated.

According to Bire, the installation of 500 public streetlights is one of the strategic policies outlined by Kupang Mayor Jefrison Riwu Kore for 2018 to beautify Kupang in the evening.

He said five thousand public streetlights have been installed in the area spread across 51 villages in Kupang City. The government will continue to strive to install streetlights at 20,000 locations through gradual procurement every year.

"We hope that with the installation of public streetlights at 20,000 locations, this city would become brighter to facilitate people in doing their activities, especially in the evening," he added.
