Investment worth Rp3 trillion is required to construct a manganese smelter in the Bolok industrial area, NTT by PT. The Gulf Mangan Group from Australia.
Kupang (AntaraNews NTT) - Investment worth Rp3 trillion is required to construct a manganese smelter in the Bolok industrial area, Bolok Village, Bolok Sub-district, in West Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by PT. The Gulf Mangan Group from Australia.

"The total cost for constructing manganese smelters in Kupang reaches approximately Rp3 trillion," Head of Regional Investment NTT Semuel Rebo informed Antara here on Tuesday (24/7).

He made the statement after the signing of an agreement on the construction of a manganese smelter belonging to PT. Gulf Mangan Group, a manganese company from Perth, Western Australia, that took place on Friday (July 20) last week by Acting NTT Governor Robert Simbolon.

Currently, he remarked that two machines for the operation of the smelter on the East island had arrived in Kupang to be taken to the location of the Bolok industrial estate in Bolok Village to begin the construction.

He believes that the manganese smelter will certainly have a positive impact on the economy of the community in Bolok Village, as agreements are in place to recruit hundreds of people in the province in Bolok village for the operation of the manganese smelter.

"A discussion has been held either between the PT Gulf and state electricity Company PLN for electricity as long as it develops the industry," he added.

He also noted that the total electricity demand for the smelter industry could reach 80 megawatts (MW). However, for the initial development, approximately 20 MW was required by the smelter company.

Speaking in connection with the export targets, Samuel said it cannot be ascertained, as it is still under construction. However, in essence, the manganese smelter on the island of Timor has already identified countries, such China and several other Asian nations, for the export of the products.

Meanwhile, East Timor and Australia have allowed exports if there is a demand or an iron factory in the two countries.

Acting NTT Governor Robert Simbolon noted while inaugurating the construction of the smelter that the factory had become the first premium manganese processing and smelting center on Timor Island. "This proves that NTT is a promising land," he added.
